There has never been such a wonderfully detailed atlas so handy to take on trips and use at the telescope, thanks to its compact size, convenient spiral-bound design, and easy-to read labels. The 80 charts contain more than 30,000 stars to magnitude 7.6 and some 1,500 deep-sky objects (including 675 galaxies to magnitude 11.5). All the Messier, Caldwell and Herschel 400 objects are included. Facing pages show contiguous areas, and indicators in the margins point to adjacent charts. The best double stars are named, and three dozen red (carbon) stars are marked. The charts show constellation boundaries and constellation lines to help you find your way. In the back are close-up charts of the Orion Nebula region, Pleiades, Virgo Galaxy Cluster, and Large Magellanic Cloud.

An AstroSystems first. These charts are LAMINATED to go with you in all kinds of weather. They won't get ruined by the elements because they're laminated. Dust, dew, rain or spilled coffee won't harm them. You can mark on them temporarily with a grease pencil. They are covered with solid plastic and have wiro-binding for long life. Each set has 26 charts plus introduction sheet(s). Stars plotted to 8.5 magnitude (43,000) with approximately 2,500 deep sky objects. The Field and Desk Edition measures 14"x18" while the Deluxe Edition measures 15"x20". The Field Edition has white stars on a black background while the Desk Edition has black stars on a white background. The Deluxe Edition has color coded deep sky objects and the Milky Way isophotes are shaded blue. Unlike copies, the bound edge is treated with a sealant for complete water-proofing plus solid plastic covers.
