AstroSystems computer designed Primary Mirror Cells are made from a frame of 1.4" thick, 26 layer aircraft plywood for strength and rigidity on 18" and larger cells and 1" thick, 22 layer on 16" and smaller cells. These premium quality cells have a computer designed, 6061-T6 aluminum flotation system that utilizes 27 point flotation on 24" - 32" cells, 18 point flotation on 16" - 22" cells and 9 point flotation on the 10" - 15" cells. The flotation points allow the primary to truly float, supporting it evenly and aiding in cooling. This design approach thermally isolates the primary mirror and minimizes cool down time, especially on larger mirrors. New to mirror cell design is our exclusive MTS (mirror transport system). Just back down the collimation knobs and the mirror gently comes to rest on three cushioned transport pads. All the collimation bolts are set in flush with the back of the mirror cell for a clean look. Save 30-40% by assembling and finishing yourself.
While observing, your mirror stays accurately positioned from horizon to zenith with our fully adjustable, stainless steel sling, giving proper edge support with no sag or stretch. Edge slings are the choice of opticians and professional observatories, giving the best resolution your optic is capable of producing.
All cells have precut mount positions for the fans and control plate to easily install the optional cooling system on the 10" - 22" cells. The 24" - 32" cells have the cooling system as a standard feature. It is highly recommended you purchase the cooling system if you observe from a site that has daytime to nighttime temperature changes of more than 20 degrees.

The cooling system will extend your viewing time and provide better images. Equalizing the primary mirror temperature with the air temperature eliminates one of the major sources of poor "seeing". The fan assembly comes with two rechargeable, 6 volt 3.0 amp hour sealed gel-cell batteries wired in series for 12v. The 24"- 32"cells have four batteries wired in series/parallel for 12V and twice the capacity. One 60mm fan is used on 10" - 15" cells, two 60 mm fans on the 16" cell and two 80mm fans are used on the 18" - 22" cells and four 80mm fans are used on the 24" - 32" cells. Each 2.3" fan moves 17 CFM of air and a 3" fan moves 27 CFM of air and consumes a mere 0.1A at 12V. This system includes charge circuit with on/off switch and charge indicators, batteries, 12V auto charge cord and 110V AC Float charger. For international orders we provide the charge plug and wire for DC charging, you will need to provide the AC to12V DC transformer.

The "tailgate" hardware allows the removal of 2 bolts (4 on 24-32" cells) to hinge the cell down for easy access. You can easily clean or dust the mirror. More importantly, the mirror can be removed without trying to reach into the top of the mirror box. Safer for the mirror, far safer for your back.
